Duke Pubs Beer Festival Schedule of Events
Entry to our Beer Festival is free. This year the Duke Pubs are supporting the SickKids Research and Learning Tower. All donations are welcome.
As the weather gets warmer, everyone is eager to shed their coats and head to their favourite Duke patio. Our patrons are eagerly swapping their pints of Guinness to lighter lagers and ciders, while cocktail drinkers are looking for this season’s new refreshment. The search for this year’s feature cocktail started a few seasons back when we travelled across the pond to get some help from our friends at Diageo.
For those of you who don’t know the name Diageo, we’re sure you’ve had at least one of the many premium beverages they offer. Beyond supplying the globe with premium alcohol brands, they also take their research very seriously. By creating their Customer Collaboration Centre in London, England, they’re allowing their clients to come together and create great innovations for their customers.
If it ain’t broke
We asked Cindy Simpson, Executive Vice President, about creating the Duke Pubs cocktail menu and she confesses that she’s partial to Pimm’s liqueur, a favourite of the Brits. After hosting a “Pink Party” at her own residence over the years, she decided to bring this classic to the Duke Pubs two summers ago with The Pimm’s Cup. The timeless flavour of this beverage was enough to impress our most classic cocktail drinkers and was punchy enough to convert those more inclined to sweeter drinks. But this summer “we wanted a drink that the Duke Pubs could really hang their hat on,” says Cindy Simpson. And we did find one.
Keep it simple
The one important thing we learned while working with Diageo was if you keep the quality of your products high, you don’t need to complicate things. This year’s cocktail boasts classic Smirnoff vodka with Ocean Spray Cranberry Cocktail. To add a punch of summer we’ve included Peach Schnapps for sweetness in this slightly tart drink. The result is a nicely balanced, very drinkable cocktail perfect for the patio.
The best kind of research
But don’t take our word for it. Get out there and give the Woo Woo a try this patio season. While you’re at it why not try all the Duke Cocktails over the course of the summer and see which ones tickle your fancy. Who knows, you might even come up with a perfect cocktail of your own.
*Remember please drink responsibly**
